Wind Ensemble

The High School Wind Ensemble is the premier performing ensemble in the band department. Admission is by audition only, and members are expected to maintain strong practice habits to ensure their continued membership. Wind Ensemble is made up of 9-12th grade students who receive credit hours towards the Fine Arts Graduation requirements. Wind Ensemble performs at the Fall Festival Concert, Veterans Day, Winter Concert, ISSMA Festival, and the Fine Arts Festival in May. Students in this group are also highly encouraged to participate in ISSMA Solo & Ensemble contest, IBA All-District Band, & All-State Band. In addition to curricular performance opportunities, Wind Ensemble students primarily make up the Benton Central Marching, Jazz, Pit and Pep Bands. All students in the High School band program are highly encouraged to be part of these ensembles.

Students in the Wind Ensemble also have the opportunity to earn Honors credit for their participation in band. This advanced level of instrumentalists consists of a select number of Juniors & Seniors who maintain a very active co-curricular rehearsal and performance schedule. Students must demonstrate superior skills in the area of tone production, music literacy, sight-reading and seriousness of purpose in order to be considered for membership. These students will be required to participate in performance opportunities outside of the school day that support and extend the learning in the classroom. If this set of standards are not maintained the director has the authority to remove a student from the Honor Band program. For a full list of requirements, please click here.
