Percussion Ensemble

The Percussion Ensemble is a curricular performing group, meeting each day during school. All High School Percussionists take this class in lieu of a Concert Band, therefore allowing for optimal musical development of all band members. Students will experience the best in literature specifically for Percussion in solo, small, & large ensemble settings. This group will give community performances, and may choose to participate in competitions sanctioned by the Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) or the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA). Students interested in being part of this group should have a high comfort level in music reading, with a piano background highly preferred. Auditions may be necessary for non-percussionists. Percussion Ensemble members learn Concert Band repertoire during their class period, and will be combined with the rest of the band as performances approach.

Students in the Percussion Ensemble also have the opportunity to earn Honors credit for their participation in band. This adv
anced level of instrumentalists consists of a select number of Juniors & Seniors who maintain a very active co-curricular rehearsal and performance schedule. Student must demonstrate superior skills in the area of tone production, music literacy, sight-reading and seriousness of purpose in order to be considered for membership. These students will be required to participate in performance opportunities outside of the school day that support and extend the learning in the classroom. If this set of standards are not kept or maintained the director has the authority to remove a student from the Honor Band program.
