The Band Program in the Benton Community Schools form
an important part of the total school life. It is a highly visible part of the
school and of the community. We are ambassadors that perform throughout the
state, while representing Benton County and the
surrounding area. We represent our school with the highest standards of excellence
and ethical conduct.
“Quality is never an
accident. It is the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent
direction, and skillful execution. It represents the wise choice of many
alternatives.”
The goal of the Benton Central Band Program is to
offer students a solid and well-rounded musical education in a setting that is
safe, challenging, and enjoyable.
The band program at Benton Central allows
students to participate in a variety of performing ensembles suited to their
abilities and desires. A basic assumption for all students is the willingness to
improve and be part of a group effort. Those students who have successfully completed
the Junior High band program are welcomed and encouraged to continue their
musical studies in High School. Curricular Band classes include: 6th Grade Elementary Band, Cadet Band (7th grade), Concert Band (8th grade), Symphonic Band (HS), Wind Ensemble (HS), and Percussion Ensemble (HS). For those students in the High School band program, the Bison Marching Band provides the opportunity for
students to participate in musical events throughout the community and state. The
BMB works during the summer and fall participating in contests, parades, and
provides entertainment during Benton Central home football
games.
After marching season is over, the BCMB segues into the Benton Central Pep Band
providing entertainment and encouragement at a selection of home girls’ &
boys’ varsity basketball games. Other activities that students are
encouraged to be part of include: Three Jazz Bands (two HS, one JH), which practice after school or during homeroom on Fridays and joins in concert events throughout
the year; ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest; All-State Band; IBA All-District & All-Region Honor Bands; Purdue Summer Concert Band; private lessons;
and numerous small group playing experiences. The Benton Central Band program is
also supported by the parents and friends making up the Benton Central Band
Boosters. The group is an integral part in the success of all of the bands at
Benton Central.
The Band Department presents four annual performance
events. In October is the Fall Festival of Music concert, which combines the talents of all of the Benton Central Bands and ends with a performance by the Marching Band. The holiday season provides another
opportunity for parents and the community to enjoy the musical talents of the
BCSC students with our "Sounds of the Season" concert. In the spring, the Bands share their
talents by performing the musical pieces that they will take to ISSMA contest.
Near the end of the second semester in May, the Fine Arts Festival showcases the talents of our Visual Art, Woodworking, Choir, and Band students in a weekend-long event.
